Trail Construction About to Begin

The Decatur Park District has received the money necessary to complete a long-planned multi-use path from Fairview Park to Greendell Park in Decatur.  The path will follow along Stevens Creek and pass nearby the Home Park neighborhood.  A map of the path can be found on the Decatur Park District’s Web site at:  http://www.decatur-parks.org/main/trail_map_lg.htm

More information about the trail can be found on the Herald & Review:  http://www.herald-review.com/articles/2009/06/11/news/local/1041768.txt

The project is scheduled to begin in late July.  When the trail is complete, I can guarantee riders and walkers on the new trail will encounter deer, wild turkeys, many other species of birds and small mammals, which are plentiful in the wooded and grassy areas.

Doesn’t it look like on the map that the path crosses the creek in several spot?

  2. Kris says:

I noticed that too. They must have altered the plan because I think the article said only three bridges were going to need built. I see the trail crossing 8 times on the map???

  3. Doug says:

Well it does show a bridge right by us so thats cool. I can’t wait to take the dog down to the creek. I wonder if that open spot on the dead end is private or if we can go down there now?

  4. Kris says:

I think all the private property needed for the trail has been purchased so I guess you could go down there, if that’s where the trail is supposed to be. I wonder how wide an easement the trail has?

It’ll be a nice scenic ride in the Fall when the leaves turn. It’ll also be great for my photography hobby. It’s no fun taking pictures in a car of a deer or a pheasant on a busy road. I’m looking forward to a more quiet, safe and outdoorsy atmosphere. But I have a feeling the trail is going to be under water A LOT during the Spring.
