I’ve made many mistakes in this life.
I try to use those “mistakes” as “warnings” when advising any youngster willing to waste time listening to an old geezer.
The most valuable advice I have to offer is to never, ever, ever judge a book by it’s cover!
If you do, you may miss your dream !

I’ve watched this video over and over – teary eyed I must confess. It blew me away.

I’ve often wondered how much joy and greatness this world has missed out on – all the talented people who have so much to contribute to society whether it’s music, literature, or art. People from all backgrounds and ages have so much to give, and we are only privileged enough to get a very small taste of what’s really out there.

And that song meant so much more coming from a woman like her. If a beauty queen sang it, who would care? We have too many anatomically correct blow-up Barbie dolls in music and not enough true talent – not that I’m discriminating against a good looking singer with a great voice. That’s nice too. But the voice should matter more than the look.

And country music is the guiltiest at being the most vain and shallow industry in music. At least rock and other genres take into account talent and not just looks – at least once in a while.

    Kris,
    I totally agree.
We have become a culture who value form over content.
Witness what that attitude/misperception has accomplished.
    It is not “pretty” !
It is pretty mediocre and apparently less to come?
What is the value of a pretty form minus truly appreciable content?
I often wonder when our species will recognize the tremendous difficulty of attaining a Human form…in any form.
I wonder when we Humans will appreciate life in all of it’s varied beautiful forms.
How many Humans have ever existed in this infinite space we call The Universe?

  5. Doug says:

Yes she is amazing I have heard Simons record company has already signed her for an album.

How ya been Eric? Any results with your not so friendly neighbors? The new council lady should be able to help?

Kris if your out running around Saturday drop me off some flyers if you think of it. I will start passing some out too. I should be home all day unless I break something and run to Menards LOL.

  6. Kris says:

I’ll be printing some flyers out tomorrow and drop some off Saturday. I hope the weather is good.

    Eric,

“I often wonder when our species will recognize the tremendous difficulty of attaining a Human form…in any form.”

    Wonderfully put! Life is miraculous.

  7. Eric K. Johnson says:

    Hey Doug!
    How’s it going, my friend?
I’m still cleaning up after DMH.
    Still no fence.
    Still being confronted by trespassers.
I am sure our new City Council member/DMH employee will take my side.
Her first duty is to her taxpaying constituents rather than her salary paying employer (DMH)…right?

    Thank you,Kris!
I have heard of people seeking enlightenment by traveling to distant mountain tops inhabited by wise men who know the “secret”.
The Buddhists observe that the only enlightenment seekers will “find” at the summit is the enlightenment that seeker brought with him/her self.
We are in the midst of the most remarkable phenomenal “miracle” each and every time we sentient beings are consciously presently aware…with eyes wide open and mind as still as perfectly calm water.
Every thing else between “this” or “that” is only the sound of spinning wheels spinning endlessly around and around… once again…and then again…
“Spring comes and the grass grows all by itself”.
    Isn’t that miraculous!
    Eric K. Johnson

  9. Kris says:

Eric, you should write a book with your insights. I could picture a literature class discussing your writings. You’re very philosophical and deep thinking.

Those who don’t believe in miracles don’t look very far for evidence. They’re everywhere and in every breath we take.

Our only connection to life is totally dependent on our next breath.
No one alive knows if the next breath will come.
All the more reason to celebrate/cherish this breath.
    Breathe deep!
The number of our breaths are not infinite.
One last breath is our collective all inclusive fate.
That is as it must be.
We should all be grateful for the number of breaths allotted.
    Each takes a turn…naturally.
    Eric K.Johnson
    P.S.
    You are very kind ,Kris.
I very much appreciate your compliment!
I want to return the compliment in kind.
Your creative intelligence/sense of humor and depth of thinking are obvious.
I can’t take credit for the Spring grass quote.
I don’t remember who said it but it was an ancient Buddhist Philosopher.
I have pondered the value of book writing and am still pondering.
Deep thinking has a certain value.
I think my Wife wishes I were more interested in”deep” cleaning !…as in Spring cleaning.
Personally, I wish that was something that occurred all by it’s self too !
Another one of life’s many mysteries.

  11. Kris says:

    Thanks Eric,

yeah, I probably should spend more time deep cleaning rather than thinking. It would get me into a lot less trouble. ;-)
