Shadows of Lincoln Festival

Lincoln history buffs can enjoy a day-long event to be held in Downtown Decatur on June 7th from 8:00 am – 10 pm. This event will celebrate Abraham Lincoln’s life and experiences in Decatur, as well as showcase period food dishes and horse drawn carriage rides. Sidewalk storytellers and a performance of Love Letters at the Lincoln Square Theatre. Plan to come with family and friends! Let’s hope it becomes a yearly festival!

This event is just one of the many events occuring around Decatur that I have heard of which celebrate the great legacy of Lincoln during his Bicentennial. I think this is a great opportunity for our community to celebrate the arts and rich culture in Decatur. I hope that all of the local organizations including the Decatur Area Arts Council, Kirkland Fine Arts Center, the City of Decatur, Decatur Magazine, and others will join together to promote all of these events in an effort to enrich this city. Maybe we’ll actually have families stay in Decatur over the weekend instead of heading out of town!
